Benefits of the Flow Arts

Here are more!

  • Optimizing whole brain and body functioning by activating contralateral patterns of movement (known to be needed for re-patterning sub-conscious belief systems) ; thus, creating new pathways in the brain and body that bring about new ways of BE-ing
  • Quickly & conveniently access and live from a state of FLOW

  • Live longer, live smarter (studies show protective effects on the brain from developing dementia and/or Alzheimers)

  • SHIFT quickly from stress-induced states of contraction into bliss-filled states of expansion

  • Less depression and anxiety, more focus, freedom and . . . . PLAY!

  • Increased balance, coordination, and grace

To learn how you can apply this to your personal or professional life, attend our next Beauty that Transforms retreat on March 20 - 27, 2017 in Hawaii! Also, stay tuned for Jinju's upcoming book!

Why Flow Arts?

A message from the director, Dr. Jinju Dasalla -

With all my formal training and education in neuroscience and the mental health field, what has interestingly become one of the most powerful tools in my toolbox for personal healing and transformation is something I would have never expected – the Flow Arts, specifically the art and practice of dancing with poi, the hoop, and with fire, dancing being the key word.

Experiencing the therapeutic effects first-hand inspired me to dive back into the neuroscience literature to find out what is happening in the brain and the nervous system to promote the healing I was experiencing, and, had me ask, is it possible for others?

In my search to answer questions like this, I've found that - yes! - not only is it possible for others to experience healing in this way . . . . but it's also already happening! In my travels around the world, I've met countless individuals who, like myself, have experienced significant healing and transformation through a dedicated flow practice and are asking the same question - how? It turns out there are several fascinating and compelling findings that help us understand this new, revolutionary approach to taking mental, physical, and emotional health into our own hands. This fascinating exploration continues and has inspired others to join me in this search which has allowed Soul Flow Arts to grow as an extraordinary team with a shared vision.

In our programs, we share findings such as how juggling promotes whole brain functioning by integrating left/right brain functioning and literally increases the number of neural pathways in the brain (as demonstrated by a 5% increase in "white matter" in the brain), and findings that show significant reduction of anxiety and depression in patients undergoing treatment for such diagnoses. Furthermore, there is increasing awareness, largely through the work of flow psychologists such as Mihaly Csikszentmihlyi, that people who engage in activities that cultivate a state of flow are, in general, happier and healthier human beings.

Yes, we believe this information is vital for these times and we are dedicated to sharing it with others. If you would like updates on our work and our journeys, simply sign up for our newsletter!

So how did it all start?

My first experience with poi was when I was six years old living in Hawaii. Little did I realize the imprint that not only the poi, but the polynesian culture had made on me in those few years. I re-discovered the art at a Burning Man Festival nearly 20 years later and the moment I saw it, my soul began to remember. I immediately knew I had to learn and as I began practicing on my own, it was like coming home and  it didn’t take long before I not only fell in love, but it became my sanctuary. This unique form of movement meditation and dance became my vehicle not only for healing and centering, but also for re-discovering the wisdom that lives within the body. Through this art, I have been able to awaken the fire within my soul and reclaim a universal sense of joy through playful and creative expression. This art and practice (and Flow Arts in general) has been the most transformative vessel I have discovered that weaves together aspects of the human condition that often remain separate and seemingly disconnected for many. In this practice, infinite aspects of one's being and of humanity can come alive and harmonize . . . . mind with body, head with heart, and science with spirituality. Furthermore, when one dances with Fire, there is a sacred connection to one of the most powerful elements in Nature. In meeting the fire, one has the opportunity to take all their fears, and dreams, come face-to-face with them in the flames and then embrace them in the dance.

Beauty that Transforms was birthed in 2012 as a way to share this art and practice with the world in the context of healing, transformation and grace. Currently we offer Beauty that Transforms - The Workshop, Retreat, and The Journey (for private groups and for individuals).
